Commercial swimming pool refurbishment, planned around your closure.
Commercial pools work hard. Heavy bather loads, daily cleaning and constant water treatment wear grout and tiles faster than in a private pool, and every day the pool is shut costs lessons, memberships or bookings. We refurbish tiled commercial pools across the UK, from targeted repairs to full retiles, with the scope agreed before the water comes out.
Commercial pool refurbishment and repairs
Our commercial work is the tiled finish of the pool and the wet areas around it. We inspect, clean, repair, regrout and retile, and we deal with the movement joints, steps, edges and channels where failures usually start.
Most commercial pools do not need everything stripped out. A careful inspection separates the areas that have failed from the ones that are still sound, so the work and the closure go where they are needed. Where a full retile is the right answer, we say so and plan it properly.
- Drained-down inspection with tap testing and selective lifting
- Chemical cleaning matched to the job, so sound grout is not harmed
- Loose, cracked and missing tile repairs, including steps and edges
- Render and background repairs behind failed tiles
- Regrouting and epoxy regrouting where tiles are well bonded
- Movement joints renewed with a flexible sealant
- Partial and full retiling, including lane markings and mosaic
- Pool surrounds, changing rooms and showers in the same closure
Leisure centres, schools, hotels and clubs
Each type of commercial pool has its own pressures. Leisure centres run long hours with lessons, clubs and public sessions. School pools need work to fit the holidays. Hotels and spas want the pool looking right for guests and done in the quieter season. Health clubs have members who notice every closed day.
Our pool work includes The Chelsea Harbour Hotel in London and Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club in Edinburgh. We also work on holiday park, hydrotherapy and mikveh pools, which each bring their own requirements.
Keeping the closure as short as the work allows
The quickest route back to an open pool is a scope agreed before the pool is drained. We confirm materials, access, working areas and the sequence in advance, so the days the pool is empty are spent working rather than waiting.
Cure times and a controlled refill are built into the programme. We do not cut them short to hit a reopening date, because that is how new grout and repairs fail early. If draining the pool reveals something nobody could see, you hear about it the same day with the options.
If you look after a pool for a facilities team, our page for facilities teams sets out how we plan a job from enquiry to completion.
We plan to agreed dates and tell you straight away if anything found under the tiles affects the programme.
Working with the operator's safety and water plans
Pool operators carry duties for safety and water quality. HSE's guidance on health and safety in swimming pools (HSG179) and the PWTAG Code of Practice set out what operators should have in place, including procedures for draining, works and returning the pool to use.
We work within the operator's procedures and permits, use cleaning chemicals safely under COSHH, and hand the pool back ready for the operator's own water treatment and checks before it reopens.
What a tiling contractor does not do
We are pool tilers, not a pool construction or plant company. Pool plant, filtration, heating, lighting, leak detection and structural repairs to the shell are specialist trades. If our inspection points to one of them, we will tell you, and refurbishment closures are a sensible time to have that work done alongside the tiling so the pool only shuts once.
What does commercial swimming pool refurbishment include?
For a tiled commercial pool it usually covers inspection, a chemical clean, tile and background repairs, regrouting or epoxy regrouting, renewed movement joints and retiling where tiles cannot be saved. The scope is agreed after the inspection.
How long will our pool be closed?
It depends on the scope. A clean and regrout needs less time than repairs to tiles and background or a full retile, and draining, cure times and refilling all need to fit in. We agree a programme with you before the pool is drained.
Can you work in school holidays or an off-season?
Yes. Most school and hotel pool work is planned around the summer holidays or quieter months. Tell us your window early so the scope and materials can be agreed before it starts.
Do you work outside the North West?
Yes. We are based in Warrington and work on pools across the UK, including London and Edinburgh.
How do we get a quote for a commercial pool?
Send us the pool's details and some photos through the estimate form. We will arrange an inspection, explain the options and quote the scope we agree with you.
Tell us about your pool.
Send a few details and we’ll get back to you to understand the job. Photos of the tiles, grout and problem areas help us a lot, and you can add them below.
What affects the estimate?
- The pool area and which surfaces need work
- Joint size and the grout or tiles involved
- The condition of the tiles, joints and background
- Access to the pool and the working areas
- Preparation, cleaning and any repairs needed first
- The programme and when the pool can close
