The challenge
Water had got in behind and beneath the existing mosaic, and the bond had failed across the spa floor, with many tiles coming away by hand. Once the failed finish was lifted, areas of the screed underneath turned out to be friable and sand-rich, with little cement content left.
What we did
- Failed floor mosaic removed to expose the screed
- All defective screed cut out to a sound base and reinstated in Ardex A38 rapid-setting screed, with Ardex AM 100 rapid-setting repair mortar for smaller patches, so tiling could go ahead the same day
- Spa pool floor retiled in a larger-format tile, agreed with the client, to cut installation time and get the spa back in service sooner
- Mosaic patch repairs around the pool walls and the central column
- The whole spa regrouted in epoxy grout to stop further water getting in
- Stainless steel handrails chemically cleaned
The result
A sound new floor on reinstated screed, repaired mosaic and a full epoxy regrout, so the spa could go back into service without water working its way behind the tiles again.
