The challenge
Three pools needed refurbishing ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games: the 50m competition pool, the training pool and the children's and toddler pool. The 50m pool also had an existing leak along one side.
What we did
- A full new base laid in the 50m pool
- Because of the existing leak, the full length of one side of the 50m pool ripped out, then rescreeded, tanked, retiled and grouted in epoxy
- Pool edge and backer tiles ripped out and retiled in all three pools
- Starting plinths stripped, rebuilt to line and level, and retiled
- Patch repairs to the wall tiling and major repairs to the surround tiling
- Existing tiles chemically cleaned and regrouted, with the other two pools fully epoxy grouted
- Overflow channels tanked, with new channel grating and expansion joints fitted
- Every area of new tiling grouted in epoxy, including the surround
The result
All three pools refurbished ahead of Glasgow 2026, with a new 50m pool base, the leaking side rebuilt and tanked, a lot of tile repairs and patching, and new edges, channel grating and epoxy grout throughout.
