Stirling pool repairs, and why the same tiles keep failing.

Some pools lose the same tiles or the same grout lines again and again, however often they are patched. If your Stirling pool has a problem that keeps coming back, we will look for the reason behind it before agreeing a repair.

Pools in and around Stirling

Stirling sits on the River Forth between Glasgow and Edinburgh, and it is a university city. Its pools include public leisure and school pools, university sports facilities, hotel and club pools, and private pools in homes in the villages around the city and out towards the Trossachs.

Diagnosis

Why the same areas keep failing

A tile that lifts twice is rarely bad luck. Common causes include adhesive that never bonded fully, a screed or render that has come away behind the tiles, missing or blocked movement joints, and grout that was not suited to the water treatment.

Tap testing shows where the bond sounds hollow, but it cannot prove what is behind a tile. Where the evidence points to a deeper fault, we will say so and explain what may need opening up.

  • Loose tiles in the same bay after each repair
  • Grout washing out along one wall or the floor
  • Cracks that follow a line across the tiles
  • Hollow patches spreading from a step or corner
The fix

Repairing the cause, not just the tile

Once we know why something failed, the repair can match it: rebedding on a sound background, adding or renewing movement joints, or regrouting with an epoxy grout where the conditions call for it.

Everything then gets the cure time the manufacturer asks for before refill. Cutting that short is one of the reasons pools end up repaired twice.

Your records

What helps us diagnose a pool

Any history you have makes our job easier. Note when problems first appeared, which areas were repaired before and with what, and whether failures follow a drain-down or a change in water treatment. Old drawings, tile labels and spare tiles are all worth digging out before we visit.

We travel up from Warrington for the inspection and the works, and for longer jobs we stay locally. Stirling's central position also makes it straightforward to reach from either side of the country.

Pool work in Stirling: common questions

All questions
Our Stirling pool has been patched several times. Is a full retile the only option?

Not necessarily. Once we know why the repairs failed, a targeted repair or regrout may hold. If the background has failed widely, we will tell you that honestly.

Can you tell what is wrong from photos?

Photos help us see the pattern of failure, but we need to inspect the pool, ideally drained, before recommending a repair or giving a price.

Do you work on university pools in Stirling?

Yes, as well as school, leisure, hotel and private pools. We can plan around term dates.

Start with an estimate

Tell us about your pool.

Send a few details and we’ll get back to you to understand the job. Photos of the tiles, grout and problem areas help us a lot, and you can add them below.

Dan or Jay will be in touch within 24 hours.

What affects the estimate?

  • The pool area and which surfaces need work
  • Joint size and the grout or tiles involved
  • The condition of the tiles, joints and background
  • Access to the pool and the working areas
  • Preparation, cleaning and any repairs needed first
  • The programme and when the pool can close
