Pool refurbishment in Reading, with the closure planned around your members.

Reading is a busy commercial town with plenty of business hotels, gyms and health clubs, and for those operators the hardest part of any pool work is the closure. We help you plan the work so the pool is out of use for as short a time as the job safely allows.

Planning the shutdown

Getting the dates right before anything is drained

Most tile repair and regrouting work needs the pool drained, and then the materials need curing time before refill. That cannot be rushed, so the best way to shorten a closure is to plan it properly: agree the scope, order materials and confirm the drain down and refill with whoever looks after your plant.

If there are other jobs waiting, such as plant room work, a changing room refit or a new surround, it usually makes sense to line them up in the same window. Members tend to accept one well planned closure better than two.

Around the town

The pools we look after

Reading has health club and gym pools, hotel pools near the centre and the business parks, school and university pools, public leisure pools, and private pools in homes in the villages along the Thames and the Kennet.

Each one is run differently. A members' club may have early morning swimmers every day of the year, while a school pool can close for the summer holidays. We ask how the pool is used before we suggest a programme.

Scope

Repair, regrout or refurbish

Not every tired pool needs a full retile. We inspect first, tap test suspect areas and check the joints, edges and steps, then explain what we found. Sometimes targeted repairs and a regrout will see a pool through several more years. Sometimes the bed has failed widely and patching would only move the problem around.

Pool work in Reading: common questions

All questions
How long will our Reading pool be closed?

It depends on what we find and on the cure times of the materials, so we do not give a figure before inspecting. Once the scope is agreed we set out the programme so you can tell members in good time.

Can you work while the gym stays open?

Often, yes, as long as the pool hall can be closed off safely. We agree access routes and working areas with you beforehand.

Is Reading a long way for you to travel?

No. We cover the whole of the UK from Warrington, and Reading is straightforward to reach by motorway. For longer jobs we stay locally.

What affects the estimate?

  • The pool area and which surfaces need work
  • Joint size and the grout or tiles involved
  • The condition of the tiles, joints and background
  • Access to the pool and the working areas
  • Preparation, cleaning and any repairs needed first
  • The programme and when the pool can close
