Huddersfield pool refurbishment, timed to the school and university year.

Many of the pools around Huddersfield belong to schools, colleges and the university, and they can only close when the timetable allows. We help you plan tile repairs, regrouting or a retile so the work fits the holiday you have, not the one you wish you had.

Working back from the holiday

Plan early, start on time

The main works are the easy part to schedule. What often slips is everything before them: the inspection, agreeing the scope, ordering tiles and arranging the drain down. If those are left until the term before, the window can be gone before work begins.

We suggest an inspection a term or more ahead, ideally with the pool drained if you have a short closure planned. That lets us order materials in good time.

If the window really is too short for everything, we help you split the work sensibly, doing the most urgent areas first and leaving a clear plan for the next closure.

  • Inspect and agree the scope a term or more ahead
  • Confirm tile and grout choices and order early
  • Agree drain down and refill with the site team
  • Build in cure time before the pool reopens
Teaching pools

Steps, edges and shallow floors

School and teaching pools see a lot of small feet and a lot of sitting on the edge. Steps, nosings and the shallow floor tend to wear first, and a sharp or lifting tile there is a safety issue that should not wait for the next holiday. Send us a photo and we will advise whether to close that area.

Pool covers, lane ropes and teaching equipment also take a toll on edge tiles over the years. When we inspect, we note any damage near anchor points and fittings, because these are easy to miss until a tile comes away.

The valleys

Private pools outside the town

In the Colne and Holme valleys there are private indoor pools in homes, often in converted mills and farm buildings. These pools have no term dates, so we can usually be more flexible on timing, and we look closely at how the pool hall is ventilated and heated, because it affects the tiles too.

Converted buildings can bring their own quirks, such as older walls, uneven floors or heating added after the pool was built. We take time on the first visit to understand how the pool was put together before suggesting any repair.

Usually, if the scope is agreed and materials are ordered well before the holiday starts. Tell us your dates early.

What if a tile lifts during term time?

Sharp or lifting tiles are a safety matter. Close that area and send us photos, and we will advise on a short-term fix and plan a proper repair.

How far is Huddersfield from you?

It is a straightforward trip over the Pennines from our base in Warrington.
