Ipswich pool tiling, and an honest answer on draining down.
One of the first questions operators in Ipswich ask is whether the pool has to come out of use. For most proper tile and grout repairs it does, because adhesive and grout need a dry surface and time to cure. We explain why, and help you decide when to do it.
Why most repairs need the water out
Tile adhesive and pool grout are designed to go on clean, dry surfaces and cure before they are covered with water. Working underwater, or on a damp surface, rarely gives a bond that lasts.
That does not mean every defect forces an instant closure. A loose tile in deep water can sometimes be made safe and noted for the next planned drain down. A sharp or lifting tile on a step or the edge is different and needs dealing with straight away.
Making one drain down cover more
Because draining, cleaning, curing and refilling take time, it makes sense to do as much as possible in one go. We walk the whole pool, not just the reported area, so there are fewer surprises later.
- Agree who drains and refills, and how fast
- Clean down and inspect the empty tank
- Repair and regrout the agreed areas
- Allow the full cure time before refill
- Hand back to plant staff to bring the water up
Pools from the Orwell to the seaside
Ipswich sits at the head of the Orwell estuary. In and around the town there are school, leisure, hotel and health club pools, and further out, along the Suffolk coast and in the countryside, there are private pools and pools at holiday accommodation.
Pools used mainly in summer suit autumn and winter work, which gives cure times room to breathe.
Making a defect safe in the meantime
If a fault turns up mid-season, the first job is to judge whether it is a hazard. A tile with a sharp or raised edge where bathers walk or grip should be cordoned off or dealt with straight away. A small area of open grout on the floor of a deep end may be fine to log, photograph and watch until the next drain down.
We can help you make that call from photos, then plan the proper repair.
Our team’s previous pool experience
Previous projects: carried out by Dan and his dad as self-employed subcontractors, before PoolRevive was formed. About our experience
Can you repair tiles without draining our pool?
Sometimes. Surround repairs, and minor repairs high on edges and steps with the water level lowered, can often be done without a full drain, depending on the pool's size and layout. We don't do diving work, so deeper repairs usually need the pool drained, a dry surface and time for the materials to cure.
When is the best time to work on a coastal holiday pool?
Usually outside the main season. Tell us your booking pattern and we will suggest a window with enough time for curing.
Is Ipswich within your area?
Yes. We cover the whole of the UK from Warrington and stay locally when a job runs over several days.
Tell us about your pool.
Send a few details and we’ll get back to you to understand the job. Photos of the tiles, grout and problem areas help us a lot, and you can add them below.
