Pool refurbishment in Derby, from city lanes to Peak District homes.

Derby sits on the River Derwent with the Peak District just to the north, so the pools we see around here range widely. There are lane and teaching pools in the city, and private and hotel pools out towards the hills. We refurbish, retile and repair all of them.

Two kinds of pool

City pools and country pools

In the city, pools tend to be busy and heavily cleaned, with wear concentrated on steps, edges and the shallow end. Out in the villages and the Derbyshire Dales, private indoor pools are often lightly used but kept warm all year, and their problems are more about age, staining and the odd failed joint.

Both deserve a different conversation, so we ask how the pool is used before suggesting anything.

Commercial operators in the city usually want work fitted into an annual shutdown, while a private owner may be more flexible on dates but keen to keep disruption in the house to a minimum. We plan around whichever applies.

Retile or repair

When a refurbishment makes sense

A full retile is a big decision. Sometimes targeted repairs and a regrout will see a pool through many more years. Other times the bed has failed so widely that patching just delays the inevitable. We tell you which we think applies, and why.

If a refurbishment is the right call, it is also a chance to fix things that have always annoyed you, such as slippery steps, poor lane markings or awkward edge details. We talk those through at the scoping stage, not halfway through the job.

  • Widespread hollow tiles across the floor or walls
  • Repeated repairs that keep failing
  • Tiles discontinued and impossible to match
  • A change of design, colour or lane markings
Rural access

Getting materials to private pools

Private pools in the countryside sometimes have tight access, narrow lanes or a pool hall reached through the house. Let us know about any of that early. It shapes how materials arrive and where waste goes, and it means we can protect floors and doors on the way in.

Waste from a strip out is heavier than most people expect, so we agree where skips or bags can go before the first tile comes off.

Pool work in Derby: common questions

All questions
Do you cover villages outside Derby, towards the Peak District?

Yes. We work on private and hotel pools across Derbyshire as well as in the city.

Should we retile or just repair?

It depends on how widespread the problem is. We inspect first and tell you honestly whether repairs are likely to last.

Can you match our existing tiles?

Sometimes. If you have spare original tiles, keep them, as they make a repair far easier to blend in.

Start with an estimate

Tell us about your pool.

Send a few details and we’ll get back to you to understand the job. Photos of the tiles, grout and problem areas help us a lot, and you can add them below.

Dan or Jay will be in touch within 24 hours.

What affects the estimate?

  • The pool area and which surfaces need work
  • Joint size and the grout or tiles involved
  • The condition of the tiles, joints and background
  • Access to the pool and the working areas
  • Preparation, cleaning and any repairs needed first
  • The programme and when the pool can close
