Luton pool tile repairs, matching tiles that are no longer made.
Older pools in and around Luton often have tiles that went out of production years ago. When a few need replacing, the question is how to make the repair blend in. We work through the options with you before any tile comes up.
Ways to deal with discontinued tiles
The best match is always an original tile. Many pools have a box of spares in a store room or plant room, left over from the build or an earlier repair, and they are worth hunting for before anything else.
Where there are none, we look for the closest current tile in size, colour and finish. A slight difference in thickness or shade shows more on a step nosing or a lane line than in the middle of the floor, so where the repair sits matters.
- Check for spare original tiles on site
- Take sound tiles from a less visible area to repair a prominent one
- Source the closest current tile in size, colour and finish
- Make a deliberate feature band or border rather than a near miss
Pools across Luton and south Bedfordshire
Luton has school and leisure pools, hotel pools serving the airport and the M1, gym and health club pools, and the University of Bedfordshire. Private pools are more common in the villages towards the Chiltern Hills.
School pools here, as elsewhere, are usually worked on in the summer holidays, and that window fills up. If tile matching may take time, it helps to start the conversation in spring.
What helps us judge a repair
Photos of the damaged area beside a sound tile, a note of the tile size and any label from an old box let us start looking for a match before we visit. We still inspect in person before agreeing a price.
When patching stops making sense
There comes a point where a pool has so many mismatched repairs that another one adds little. If we see that, we will say so, and talk through a partial retile of the worst area or a full retile as an alternative. The choice is yours, and we will price whichever scope you want to look at once we have inspected the pool.
Our team’s previous pool experience
Previous projects: carried out by Dan and his dad as self-employed subcontractors, before PoolRevive was formed. About our experience
Our original tiles are no longer made. Can you still repair the pool?
Yes. We look for spares first, then the closest current match, and talk through where any difference would show before work starts.
Should we keep the tiles you take out?
Sound tiles that come out cleanly are worth keeping as spares for future repairs. Broken ones are not much use.
Do you work on school pools in Luton?
Yes. Most school work is planned for the summer holidays, so let us know your dates early.
Tell us about your pool.
Send a few details and we’ll get back to you to understand the job. Photos of the tiles, grout and problem areas help us a lot, and you can add them below.
What affects the estimate?

- Joint size and the grout or tiles involved
- The condition of the tiles, joints and background
