Peterborough pool repairs, that start with why the tiles failed.

Some pools come back to the same problem every year: the same row of tiles lifts, or the same grout line washes out. Patching it again buys a few months. We look for the reason before we repair, so the fix has a better chance of lasting.

Repeat failures

Common reasons the same area keeps going

A repeat failure nearly always has a cause behind the tile. Finding it can mean lifting a few tiles to see what the bed and background look like, which we agree with you before doing.

Once we know the cause, the repair can be sized properly. Sometimes that is a small area, sometimes a wider section than the visible damage.

  • Missing or blocked movement joints, so the tiles have nowhere to go
  • Adhesive that never fully covered the back of the tiles
  • Grout that is not suited to the pool's water and cleaning regime
  • Earlier patch repairs done with the wrong materials
  • Movement in the structure or the screed below
The city's pools

Older public pools and newer builds

Peterborough is a cathedral city on the River Nene that grew a great deal from the 1970s onwards. Its pools range from older public and school pools with decades of repairs on them to newer hotel and gym pools near the A1 and the edge of town, plus private pools in the surrounding villages.

Older tanks can have several generations of tiles and grout side by side. We note what is original and what is a later repair, because they often behave differently.

Getting there

A straightforward trip

Peterborough is reasonably easy to reach from Warrington, which makes a separate inspection visit practical before the main works are booked. For the works we stay nearby and keep going until the agreed scope is finished.

Matching the repair

Choosing materials that suit the pool

Once the cause is clear, the repair materials are chosen for that pool: an adhesive suited to immersion, and a grout that will stand up to the water chemistry and cleaning the pool actually gets. Where an earlier repair used the wrong products, we take it back to sound material rather than build on top of it.

Any spare original tiles you have make the finished repair far less obvious, so it is worth checking the plant room before we start.

Pool work in Peterborough: common questions

All questions
We had this area repaired two years ago. Why has it failed again?

There is usually a reason underneath, such as a missing movement joint or poor adhesive cover. We would want to look at it, and possibly lift a few tiles, before saying for certain.

Do you need to open up tiles during the inspection?

Not always. Tap testing shows us where to look harder. If opening up a small area would answer the question, we ask you first.

Do you work on leisure centre pools in Peterborough?

Yes, along with school, hotel, gym and private pools and their surrounds and changing areas.

What affects the estimate?

  • The pool area and which surfaces need work
  • Joint size and the grout or tiles involved
  • The condition of the tiles, joints and background
  • Access to the pool and the working areas
  • Preparation, cleaning and any repairs needed first
  • The programme and when the pool can close
