The challenge
Widespread debonding had left large numbers of tiles loose or lifting across the pool floor. Once tiles came up, it was clear the original installation had not been done to the required standard: tiles had been laid over dusty, unprepared surfaces and spot-fixed with dabs of adhesive instead of being solidly bedded, leaving voids beneath that let water in and allowed the bond to fail.
What we did
- Pool drained down and all loose and hollow-sounding tiles identified and marked
- Debonded tiles removed across the pool floor, along the lane markings and beside the edge channel
- Substrate thoroughly cleaned and prepared
- Tiles refixed on a full, solid adhesive bed for a lasting bond
- The whole pool regrouted in epoxy grout
- Repairs to the poolside surround and changing area, including loose skirting tiles and the floor tiling around the drains
The result
A solidly bedded pool floor with no hollow tiles left behind, fully regrouted in epoxy grout, and the poolside and changing area repairs finished.
